About Us
Connecticut Children’s Medical Center is the region’s only academic medical center dedicated exclusively to children. We are committed to providing the highest level of care to the most children possible, as close to home as possible.
Your support ensures that all children, from infants to adolescents, receive the highly specialized medical and surgical services that define Connecticut Children’s. From neurosurgery, to oncology, to orthopaedics, and everything in between, our talented pediatric subspecialists treat even the most complex problems in a state-of-the-art facility that is designed especially for kids.
On a typical day at Connecticut Children’s…more than 120 children are treated in the Emergency Department, approximately 30 children undergo surgery and 14 children will be admitted for inpatient care. Each year there are over 230,000 patient care visits to the Medical Center.
In addition to providing the most advanced and compassionate care, we conduct independent research and seek out the latest technologies and procedures to make kids better, faster. Connecticut Children’s was the first hospital in the State to perform robotic surgery for a child and we are recognized internationally for pioneering techniques in pediatric minimally invasive surgical procedures.
At the center of everything we do, are the children and families for whom we care. By partnering with our families, we ensure that their children receive outstanding clinical care that is responsive to the physical and emotional needs of their child, while respectful of the family’s traditions and values.
There are 4 guiding principles that drive all that we achieve at Connecticut Children’s and they are easy to remember by simply thinking CARE.
C stands for Care of the highest quality in a safe and family-centered environment designed only for children.
A stands for Advocacy. Connecticut Children’s has played a key role in the enactment of several pieces of legislation aimed at keeping our children healthy including teen driving restrictions, booster seat requirements, a nutrition bill banning soda sales in Connecticut schools and ensuring healthcare coverage for families who qualify for Husky.
R stands for Research. We advance child health through research and encourage and support basic, translational and outcomes research of regional and national importance.
E stands for Education. As a teaching hospital, Connecticut Children’s is the home of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine residency program in pediatrics, training 60 pediatricians a year. We also provide pediatric training to hundreds of interns, nursing and allied health profession students each year.
Connecticut Children’s has a strong presence in communities across the state with Specialty Care Centers in Farmington, Glastonbury and Stamford. Thanks to our many community outreach programs, like Easy Breathing, Help Me Grow and Safe Kids Connecticut, and the dedication of our physicians and staff, children and families throughout Connecticut are healthier, safer and better informed about issues that affect the quality of their lives every day.
Thank you for choosing Connecticut Children’s and for making a substantive difference in the lives of the children and families of our region.
